Case Study: Extending ERP Visibility to the “Last Mile”

Project Type: Mobile App Development & ERP Integration Industry: Manufacturing & Logistics Core Focus: Process Optimization, Real-Time Visibility, User Experience (UX)
The Client
A leading bespoke furniture manufacturer operating a high-volume production facility. They run their operations on a powerful, custom-built ERP system that manages everything from initial design to the final build.
The Challenge
While oversight on the factory floor was excellent, the company faced a significant “data blind spot” once finished goods left the production line.
The logistics phase—comprising Warehouse management and on-site Installation—relied on manual updates from staff who were constantly on the move.
- The Friction: Warehouse staff and Installers found it impractical to find a computer terminal to update order statuses while physically handling goods or driving to sites.
- The Consequence: During peak times, system updates were missed. This led to a lack of visibility for the office team, who often didn’t know if an order was still in the building, on a truck, or successfully installed at the client’s site.
The Solution
Apslo analyzed the workflow and determined that the bottleneck wasn’t staff discipline, but tool accessibility. We developed a streamlined mobile application designed to bridge the gap between the physical work and the digital ERP.
1. Frictionless Interface We stripped the user interface down to the absolute essentials to ensure speed. Upon login, users are presented with two primary options:
- Scan Barcode: For instant, error-free updates.
- Manual Entry: For instances where physical labels are inaccessible.
2. Context-Aware Logic To prevent data entry errors, the app detects the role of the logged-in user and filters functionality dynamically:
- Warehouse View: Offers options to “Receive,” “Dispatch,” or manage component stock.
- Installation View: Restricted to “Delivered” or “Job Complete” statuses.
3. Seamless Integration The app talks directly to the client’s bespoke ERP in real-time. There is no syncing delay; as soon as a barcode is scanned in the warehouse, the status changes on the office dashboard.
The Outcome
The introduction of the mobile app eliminated the barrier to data entry for remote staff.
- 100% Visibility: Project managers and Designers can now view a transparent history log of every item, from the workshop floor to the final installation sign-off.
- Reduced Admin: The office team no longer needs to chase warehouse staff or installers for status updates via phone.
- Operational Efficiency: The simplified workflow means staff spend less time on admin and more time on value-adding tasks.
