Using the Kiosk
The Kiosk page is Board’s shop-floor interface, built for employees working from a shared pc. Workers sign in with their PIN, see the jobs assigned to them, and start, pause, or complete production in a few taps — sending live status back to the office without manual updates. This page covers both the day-to-day flow employees follow and the setup steps admins take to wire each workstation to the right team and jobs.
This guide is for the people doing the actual work on the shop floor. It shows you, step by step, exactly what to tap on the Kiosk to:
- Record how many pieces you finished
- Start and stop your work timer
- Add a comment or photo to a job
- Mark a job as blocked when something is in the way
Whichever view your Kiosk is set to — Kanban (columns) or Table (rows) — the steps are explained for both.
No need to memorize anything. Each section below is a tap-by-tap recipe. Just find the action you need and follow along.

Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need two things to use the Kiosk:
- The Kiosk URL — your manager opens this on the tablet, TV, or phone you’ll be using. You don’t need to type it. It’s usually already loaded when you arrive.
- Your PIN — a 4 to 8 digit number that identifies you. Your manager sets it up for you in the system. Keep it private — anything you do on the Kiosk is logged under your name.
No login screen, no email, no password. The Kiosk is always open. The PIN only appears when you actually try to do something (record progress, start a timer, etc.) — that way the next person can walk up and use it without waiting for anyone to log out.
The two Kiosk views
Section titled “The two Kiosk views”Your Kiosk can show jobs in one of two layouts. Both let you do exactly the same actions — just laid out differently.
Kanban (columns) view
Section titled “Kanban (columns) view”┌──────────────┬──────────────┬──────────────┐│ Cutting │ Assembly │ Painting │├──────────────┼──────────────┼──────────────┤│ ┌──────────┐ │ ┌──────────┐ │ ┌──────────┐ ││ │ Job #42 │ │ │ Job #38 │ │ │ Job #35 │ ││ │ 3 / 10 │ │ │ 5 / 5 ✓ │ │ │ 0 / 7 │ ││ └──────────┘ │ └──────────┘ │ └──────────┘ ││ ┌──────────┐ │ ┌──────────┐ │ ││ │ Job #44 │ │ │ Job #40 │ │ ││ │ 0 / 2 │ │ │ BLOCKED │ │ ││ └──────────┘ │ └──────────┘ │ │└──────────────┴──────────────┴──────────────┘One column per workstation. Each card in a column is a job that’s parked at that workstation, waiting for you to work on it. Good for large screens (tablets, wall TVs) so you can see the whole shop flow.
Table view
Section titled “Table view”┌──────────────┬─────────┬──────────┬──────────┐│ Job │ Cutting │ Assembly │ Painting │├──────────────┼─────────┼──────────┼──────────┤│ #42 Oak desk │ 3 / 10 │ — │ — ││ #38 Pine box │ 5/5 ✓ │ 5 / 5 │ — ││ #44 Maple │ 0 / 2 │ — │ — │└──────────────┴─────────┴──────────┴──────────┘One row per job, with a small cell at each workstation showing the progress. Good for small screens (a phone-sized tablet at one station) where you just want to find your job in the list.
You can switch views any time — see Switching between Kanban and Table views.
How to record progress (quantity)
Section titled “How to record progress (quantity)”This is the most common thing you’ll do — telling the system how many pieces you finished.
In Kanban (columns) view
Section titled “In Kanban (columns) view”- Find the card for the job you were working on, in the column of your workstation.
- Tap the card.
- Enter your PIN when the small keypad appears, then tap Verify.
- The Workstation Editor opens. Look for the Quantity box.
- Type the number of pieces you completed in this round.
- Example: if you just finished 5 pieces and the card already shows 3 / 10, type
5. After submit, it becomes 8 / 10.
- Example: if you just finished 5 pieces and the card already shows 3 / 10, type
- Tap the big Submit button at the bottom.
A green ✅ message confirms it’s saved. The card’s progress bar updates immediately.
In Table view
Section titled “In Table view”- Find the row for your job in the table.
- Tap the row (or the pencil icon on the right).
- Enter your PIN when prompted, then tap Verify.
- The Workstation Editor opens in a side panel. Look for the Quantity box.
- Type the number of pieces you completed.
- Tap Submit.
The row updates with the new quantity. Done.
Don’t worry about doing the math. Just enter how many you finished this time — the system adds it to what was there before.
How to start and stop work (time tracking)
Section titled “How to start and stop work (time tracking)”Use this when you want the system to record how long you spend on a job — useful for billing, costing, or just knowing where your day went.
Starting a timer
Section titled “Starting a timer”Kanban view:
- Tap the card for the job you’re about to start.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Look for the green Start Work button (▶).
- Tap it.
Table view:
- Tap the row for your job.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Tap Start Work in the panel that opens.
In both cases, the button turns into a live timer showing your elapsed time, and a red Stop Work button appears next to it. You can now close the editor and walk away — the timer keeps running.
If someone else can see the Production board, your initials appear in green on the card so everyone knows you’re on it.
Stopping a timer
Section titled “Stopping a timer”When you’re done:
- Tap the same card / row again.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Tap the red Stop Work button (■).
The timer closes and the total time is saved. You can optionally enter a quantity and note before tapping Submit — that records both the time and what you produced in one go.
Warning: timer on another workstation
Section titled “Warning: timer on another workstation”If you try to start a timer on Workstation B while you already have one running on Workstation A, the Kiosk shows a yellow banner:
⏰ Timer running on: Job #42 — Cutting
Stop the first one before starting a new one. You can only have one timer at a time — this prevents accidentally double-counting your hours.
Forgot to stop your timer at end of shift? Don’t panic. Your manager can stop it from the Admin Panel, and if your shop has the end-of-shift auto-close set up, the system stops it for you automatically.
How to add a comment or note
Section titled “How to add a comment or note”A note is just a short message attached to the work record. Use it to flag anything worth knowing: a defect, a question, an “FYI for the next shift”.
In either view
Section titled “In either view”- Tap the card (Kanban) or row (Table) for the job.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- In the Workstation Editor, find the Notes box (it’s a text area, usually right after the Quantity box).
- Type your note.
- Tap Submit.
You can submit just a note without any quantity — leave the Quantity box empty.
If the Notes box doesn’t appear, this workstation isn’t set up to accept notes. Ask your supervisor to enable it in the Admin Panel (Job → Workstations tab → Allow Notes).
How to add a photo
Section titled “How to add a photo”Useful for documenting defects, showing finished work, or capturing anything that’s easier to show than describe.
In either view
Section titled “In either view”- Tap the card / row for the job.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Find the Images section in the Workstation Editor (with a small 📷 Add images button).
- Tap Add images.
- Pick a photo from your device, or tap the camera button to take one on the spot (works on most tablets and phones).
- Repeat to add more.
- Tap Submit.
The photos are attached to the work record and will be visible to anyone in the Admin Panel looking at this job’s logs.
Made a mistake? Tap a photo before submitting to remove it.
How to mark a job as blocked
Section titled “How to mark a job as blocked”Use Block when something stops you from continuing: missing material, broken tool, waiting on a drawing, etc. Blocking flags the card so a supervisor sees it and can fix the problem.
In either view
Section titled “In either view”- Tap the card (Kanban) or row (Table) for the job that’s blocked.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Scroll to the bottom of the Workstation Editor.
- Tap the red Block button (with a 🚫 icon).
- In the box that appears, type the reason. This is required — for example:
- “Missing 5 mm screws — ordered, due tomorrow”
- “CNC machine is down, waiting for tech”
- “Need clarification on the drawing dimensions”
- Tap Confirm Block.
The card now shows a red Blocked badge and turns pink-tinted in both views. Your supervisor — and anyone else watching the Production board — sees it immediately.
Always write a clear reason. “Blocked” without a reason isn’t helpful — the supervisor needs to know what to fix.
How to unblock a job
Section titled “How to unblock a job”When the blocker is resolved (material arrived, machine fixed, drawing clarified):
- Tap the blocked card / row.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- You’ll see an Unblock button (with a green shield icon).
- Tap it.
- Optionally, add a note explaining how the blocker was fixed (helpful for the next time it happens).
- Tap Confirm Unblock.
The card returns to its normal color and you can keep working on it.
How to mark a job complete in one tap
Section titled “How to mark a job complete in one tap”Sometimes a workstation is set up so the quantity doesn’t matter — only whether it’s “done” or “not done” (a presence-only step like Quality Check, Inspection, Packing).
In that case, the Workstation Editor shows a single big blue Mark Complete button instead of a Quantity box.
- Tap the card / row.
- Enter your PIN → tap Verify.
- Tap Mark Complete.
- Optionally type a note or attach a photo.
- Tap Submit.
Done. The step is marked finished and the job moves on in the workflow.
The Mark Complete button is also available when Quantity is shown — handy when you finished the exact planned number and don’t want to retype it. Tap Mark Complete to auto-fill the Quantity box with the planned number.
Switching between Kanban and Table views
Section titled “Switching between Kanban and Table views”You can switch any time. Your choice is remembered on that device for next time.
Look in the top-right corner of the Kiosk for two small icons:
- ⊞ Columns icon — switch to Kanban (columns) view.
- ▤ Table icon — switch to Table view.
Tap the icon for the view you want. The board reloads in the new layout.
Switching views doesn’t change anything in the system — it’s just how you see the data. Other people on other Kiosks keep their own view setting.
Searching for a job
Section titled “Searching for a job”If your Kiosk has a search bar in the header (a magnifying-glass 🔍 icon with a text box), you can use it to find a job quickly without scrolling.
- Tap inside the search box.
- Type any of these:
- The job’s name (or part of it) — “oak desk”, “chair”
- The job’s reference number — “42”, “PB-0038”
- The client’s name — “Acme”
- The order number — “PO-2025-001”
- The board filters down to matching jobs as you type.
To clear the search, tap the X in the search box (or just delete what you typed).
No search bar? Your Kiosk isn’t set up to allow search. Ask your manager — it’s a simple toggle in the Kiosk URL.
Frequently asked questions
Section titled “Frequently asked questions”Q: I tapped Submit but nothing happened — what’s wrong?
Section titled “Q: I tapped Submit but nothing happened — what’s wrong?”Check three things:
- Did you fill in either a Quantity, a Note, or an Image? Submit needs at least one of them to do something.
- Is the Submit button grey? That means it’s disabled because the form is empty.
- Did you see a red error message? Read it — it usually tells you exactly what’s wrong (PIN incorrect, network down, etc.).
Q: It says “Invalid PIN” — what do I do?
Section titled “Q: It says “Invalid PIN” — what do I do?”Either:
- You typed it wrong. Try again — the input is reset.
- Your PIN was changed. Ask your supervisor for the new one.
Q: The card I’m looking for isn’t on the board.
Section titled “Q: The card I’m looking for isn’t on the board.”A few possible reasons:
- It’s completed — the Kiosk hides finished jobs by default. Tap the Show Completed toggle in the header to see them.
- It’s a draft — the planner hasn’t released it yet. Tap Show Drafts in the header (if available) or ask the planner.
- It’s archived — the job is done and put away. Use the Admin Panel for those.
- It’s not at your workstation. Look for it in other columns.
Q: I made a typo in my quantity — can I fix it?
Section titled “Q: I made a typo in my quantity — can I fix it?”You can’t edit your own entry from the Kiosk. Two options:
- Submit a correction. If you said you made 10 but really only made 7, submit
-3next time to balance it out (check with your supervisor — some shops prefer the next option). - Ask your supervisor. They can edit any time-tracking entry or quantity log from the Admin Panel.
Q: I started a timer but forgot to stop it before going home — what now?
Section titled “Q: I started a timer but forgot to stop it before going home — what now?”Nothing to do on your end. If your shop has end-of-shift auto-close set up, the system stopped it for you. If not, your supervisor will stop it from the Admin Panel and adjust the time if needed. Just stop it next time. 🙂
Q: Can I block a job that someone else started?
Section titled “Q: Can I block a job that someone else started?”Yes. The block is on the task, not on the person. Anyone authorized for that workstation can block or unblock it. Just leave a clear reason so it’s obvious what the issue is.
Q: Can I see my old time entries?
Section titled “Q: Can I see my old time entries?”Yes — tap any card → enter your PIN → in the editor’s tab bar, tap Time Tracking. You’ll see every closed entry on that specific job, with start/stop times and durations.
For all your entries across all jobs, ask your supervisor — they can see them on the Admin Panel’s Time Tracking page.
Q: The Kiosk is showing yesterday’s data — is it frozen?
Section titled “Q: The Kiosk is showing yesterday’s data — is it frozen?”The Kiosk refreshes automatically every few minutes. If it really looks stale:
- Pull down on the screen to refresh (on most tablets).
- Or close the browser and open the Kiosk URL again.
- If it still seems wrong, tell your supervisor — the device’s network might be down.
Q: Can two people use the same Kiosk at once?
Section titled “Q: Can two people use the same Kiosk at once?”Yes — but only one at a time for a single action. Person A taps a card, enters their PIN, records progress, and is done. Then Person B walks up and does their own thing. There’s no “logout” — the PIN authenticates each action separately.
