What is Board?
Section titled “What is Board?”Board is a production tracking and workflow management platform for manufacturers and other businesses that handle made-to-order work. It helps you organise jobs, track progress in real time, manage handovers between departments, and keep the whole workflow visible from order to delivery.
Where traditional ERP systems are often complex and rigid, Board is deliberately simple, visual, and flexible — shaped around how production environments actually operate.
Board fits especially well where:
- every order is different
- production stages vary between jobs
- multiple departments touch the same project
- communication crosses workshop, office, subcontractors, and clients
- spreadsheets, whiteboards, and chat threads have stopped scaling
Who Board is for
Section titled “Who Board is for”Board is built for small and medium-sized companies doing custom, bespoke, or project-based production — particularly in furniture and joinery, where it sees the heaviest use.
Other industries that fit the model include metal fabrication, CNC production, sign making, interior fit-out, upholstery, custom fabrication, and assembly or installation businesses.

Orders and Jobs
Section titled “Orders and Jobs”An Order is what your customer asks for. A Job is the production work attached to that order — usually one Job per Order, though larger projects can carry several.
A Job holds the customer information, production notes, files and drawings, workflow stages, assigned users, delivery details, and the live production status. Jobs move through your workflow as work progresses.
Boards and columns
Section titled “Boards and columns”Board uses a visual Kanban-style structure. Columns can represent departments, workstations, machines, production stages, subcontractors, or delivery stages — whatever maps cleanly to how your workshop runs.
At a glance, your team can see what’s in production, what’s delayed, what’s ready, and who’s responsible for each piece of work.
Non-linear workflow
Section titled “Non-linear workflow”Real production rarely runs in a strict line. Board lets a single Job appear in multiple columns or departments at once — upholstery can start before carpentry finishes, CNC cutting can run in parallel with purchasing, and several teams can work on different parts of the same order simultaneously.
Real-time updates
Section titled “Real-time updates”Production teams update progress directly from desktop, tablet, mobile, or barcode scanners. Office staff and management see the same picture in real time — no paper notes, no chasing for status.
Customer tracking portal
Section titled “Customer tracking portal”Board can publish live order status to your customers through a secure tracking link, cutting down “Where is my order?” emails and keeping the relationship transparent without extra admin work.
A note on terminology
Section titled “A note on terminology”Board lets you rename the major modules from App Settings → Naming, so the sidebar can speak your team’s vocabulary. For example, many accounts rename Departments to Stages, Jobs to Tickets or Items, or Job Templates to Recipes.
These docs use the default labels (Departments, Jobs, Workstations, Job Templates, Production, Orders). If your sidebar says something different, that’s just the Naming feature in use — the underlying functionality is the same.
